Horizon...

Without a doubt this is one of my favourite photographs taken in the last year.

The primary narrative is that when I'm feeling trapped, when I'm feeling claustrophobic, I like to see the horizon. It's soothing. It is zen. The irony is, despite an ocean so close, the chances to see the edge of the world are rare for me. I felt like I saw it more when I lived in Toronto, but I was out more then as a bike messenger, and my daily routing would take me down to Lake Ontario regularly and even though it's a lake and not an ocean, it felt massive.

The subversive narrative is, this photo is taken from Saturna Island and if it weren't for a delightful mist on the horizon, you'd be able to see Vancouver from this vantage point. It was perfect in that moment that I couldn't.
